The
Felin Fach Griffin, one of Wales’ leading
restaurants with rooms, has won the Best Family Restaurant
award for the United Kingdom in the 2008 Good Food
Guide.
In the shadow of the Brecon Beacons
and the Black Mountains, the Felin Fach Griffin is
owned, together with the 2007 Good Food Guide Best
Cornish Newcomer, The Gurnard’s Head, by brothers
Charles and Edmund Inkin. The kitchen is headed
by Dutchman, Ricardo van Ede, who has been at the forefront
of Wales’ gastronomic resurgence since taking
over the kitchen in 2003.
Elizabeth Carter, Consultant Editor
to the guide said of the awards: “The
Felin Fach Griffin does relaxed, modern-rustic style
to devastatingly good effect and welcomes children
of all ages. It is pub enough to have excellent, well-kept
ales on tap, but restaurant enough to deliver excellent
service and cooking that is hearty but reliably exact.”
Edmund Inkin, joint owner of the
Felin Fach Griffin, says “this recognition from
the Good Food Guide is testament to how we have stood
by our principles over the years. It is possible
to serve serious restaurant food in an environment
where all ages and all backgrounds can feel comfortable. Our
team really deserve this award.”
Julie Bell, who hosts at the Felin
Fach Griffin, commented: “We don’t patronise
children, and we don’t have gimmicky children’s
menus which are often no more than half-term PR exercises. Eating
at the Griffin is about great food, but it is also
about taking time to be with friends and family. We
do everything we can to make parents relaxed in bringing
their children, and it is not unusual for me to look
after three, or even four, generations at one table”.
The Good Food Guide is published
by Which? Books and has long been recognised as the
leading independent restaurant guide. Inspections
are anonymous and inclusion in the guide is not dependent
on any financial contribution.
