Wine
We like our wines to come from outside the mainstream. We favour the smaller winemaker, the energetic merchant, and always wines with character and a story to tell. If we can point you in a couple of directions for this Spring: say goodbye to Sauvignon Blanc and try a remarkable dry crisp Grüner Veltiner by the glass from Austria (yes Austria not Australia) or, as the days get longer and warmer, a pink Txacoli from the unique wine growing slopes of northern Spain.
Team Getaways
Many visit us for the very reason that we are the antithesis of a conference hotel. However, to bring a small team to stay, eat, drink and talk has proven to be a successful, good value and effective catalyst for decision-making and team-building. And we are surrounded by great activity centres for managers with a sadistic edge (gorge-walking, anyone?). Email us for details at edmund@eatdrinksleep.ltd.uk.
Gift Vouchers, Jellies, Cornichons, Duck Fat, Soda Bread and Fabulous Fables
We will quickly and happily turn around your requests for Gift Vouchers. For any amount, or for any product, please email us at vouchers@felinfachgriffin.co.uk. Our virtual shop also sells some great stocking presents: home made jellies and jams, our 2008 marmalade, duck fat for your roast potatoes, and books by local authors/artists Claire Minter-Kemp and Caroline Downey.
New Set Lunch menu
In our often misguided opinion, the 21st Century lunch can be the most overlooked of eating times. Perched happily in the middle of the day, lunch asks only that we build a good appetite in the morning and allocate it a little digestion time during the afternoon. Look out for our new Set Lunch at £18.90 for three courses, as well as a few old favourites among the list of Simple Things, Done Well.
The Sunday Sleepover
Why do those who book this Sleepover always seem to have a smug smile at around four on a Sunday afternoon just as Sunday night blues hit the rest of us? Join us for lunch, Sunday papers on the sofa or an afternoon walk, refuel at supper and fall asleep in a sea of pillows and duvet. Then a proper breakfast on Monday and, if life demands it, back to your desk in good time: all from £95 per person.
Where?
Our Sister establishment, The Gurnard’s Head is a handsome inn on an old-fashioned coast road from St. Ives to Land’s End. To the north foams (or sometimes laps) the Atlantic, to the south, east and west stonewall criss-crossed farmland.
What?
Holding fast to the Griffin’s record of “the simple things in life, done well”, the Gurnard’s Head is another beacon for those seeking real food, unbranded wines, good beer and comfortable rooms.
From its eclectic decoration and local folk music to its fine local art and photography, we hope the Gurnard’s Head becomes an institution in this happily undervisited yet mesmerising part of Cornwall.
Why?
The Minack Theatre, the South West Coastal Footpath, Land’s End, St. Ives with its galleries and its artists, the Eden Project, Cornwall’s many gardens.…
…or the opportunity to unwind, eat well and perhaps join the cows in taking a little gentle exercise through the extraordinary landscapes of West Cornwall.
How?
By car less than two hours from Exeter, three hours from Bristol and, once upon an exceptional time, four hours and one minute from London.
By train to Penzance or St. Erth (both 10 minutes from the Gurnard’s Head).
By air from Gatwick or Stansted to Newquay. And then by hire car or taxi (45 minutes).
