THE FELIN FACH GRIFFIN IN TOP 3
UNITED KINGDOM WINE PUBS

The Felin Fach Griffin, has been named as one of the Top Three Wine Pubs in the United Kingdom at the first Harpers’ Wine & Spirit Drinking Out Excellence Awards at the St. Martin’s Lane Hotel in London’s West End.  The Griffin was the only one of the pubs outside of London.

Sitting in between the Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountains, The Felin Fach Griffin is a pub with rooms that has been run since 2000 by the Inkin brothers.  They also own the Good Hotel Guide’s 2009 Dining Pub of the Year, The Gurnard’s Head, near St. Ives in Cornwall.

The Griffin’s new winter list includes about 20 wines by the glass and by the carafe, as well as at least 80 others by the bottle.  As well as the occasional wine supper, this winter the Griffin is also hosting relaxed monthly tastings for customers, including beer tastings with the local Wye Valley and Breconshire Breweries. 

Julie Bell, who hosts at the Felin Fach Griffin on behalf of owners Charles and Edmund Inkin, said “After many, many hours tasting wines and putting it together, this recognition for our drinks list is a huge honour.  Most excitingly, that recognition comes from the rest of the industry who truly appreciate the standards that we are consistently trying to achieve and exceed here.” 

Edmund Inkin added “We are so pleased for Julie, Ricardo and their teams.  What we do is all about giving pleasure to our guests and we know that a good wine list, without filled to the brim glasses and without huge markups, but with a knowledgeable team and elegant glassware and carafes is as important an element as our food and service.  We also think that this is evidence that the Welsh eating out market is in relatively rude health, whatever the new Michelin guide might have to say.” 

Harpers Wine & Spirit is the leading magazine for the wine and drink trade in the United Kingdom.  Their first ever Dining Out Excellence awards were set up to recognise the restaurants, bars and pubs with the best wine and spirits offerings in the country, and individuals who have made the biggest impact in the sector.
